The East Gippsland Performance and Quarter Horse Association inc was formed in 2005 when a few of us got together with the intention of forming a western oriented horse club. Something quite new to this district. Excitement started to grow when it was realized that there was quite a lot of interest in this region. We are affiliated with the Australian Quarter Horse Association who are a major source for our inspiration and guidance. Our membership is made up of a rather diverse group, some members are professional Horse Trainers, some are Stud owners or workers, the majority are enthusiasts who have to go to work to pay for their horse play. Clinics have been attended by riders on Shetland Ponies, Clydesdales, Andalusions, Arabs, Thoroughbreds as well as on all the Western Breeds, Appaloosas, Paints with the majority riding Quarter Horses. The common denominator in this equation of course is the Horse and the pursuit of improving the relationship between ourselves and our horses. Also being successful whether that be in business or leisure. The Club was created not only to run Shows but also Clinics based on all forms of the Western discipline. We invoke the skills of Australias finest Western riders who offer their experience to our members in the form of clinics and instructional improver shows. Many of our members compete at State and National show level. We are based in Bairnsdale at the Racecourse on our own 80 by 30 meter sand fully fenced sand arena. Club dates are the second Sunday of every month. See our upcoming events page for training days or show day dates. We encourage anyone, any age, experience or past discipline to come along to a day and give it a go. Western is a calm, quiet and precise riding experience which can only enhance the communication between both you and your horse no matter what direction you wish to pursue as a rider in the future. Not all our members go on to compete some just enjoy the days with their family and horse. |
